
Hanks His next role, the astronaut and commando Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - reunited him with Ron Howard. The film was generally praised by critics as well as the performances by the entire cast that included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and Kathleen Quinlan. The film received nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Hanks played the role of Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated movie Toy Story (1995). A year later, Hanks made his directorial debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The tale of the fall and the rise of a rock group. Hanks also performs the role of music producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming" and many reviewers agree that Hanks performances earned him a place among the top romantic-comedy stars his generation.
