Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a popular public speaking event organizer. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and comments on depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and a prestigious feminist for more than a decade. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture, is her brainchild. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. Destroying stereotypes about women are the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also discusses issues of targeted harassment against women online as well as other communities that have been excluded. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Alongside being a well-known public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while she was still at university. A woman with ambitions to launch a web-series that would examine the gender-based representation in video games was targeted by an online campaign. The incident did not deter her, but instead strengthened the determination of a feminist critic of media. As a result of the many achievements she's made for feminist movements, she has been recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. The educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
